SONGS TO THE SIRENS, 2020
In Maria Bajt's 63 meter long painted and screen printed mural, six sea goddesses from the world mythology have settled in Norrtälje harbour. Each of the six parts in the painting is named after them.RAN who in Norse mythology is the goddess of the deep sea.AMPHITRE one of the Nereids in Greek mythology who ruled over everything in the sea.SEDNA is the goddess of the sea and sea animals among the Inuits of North America.YEMOJA is an African water goddess from the Yoruba religion.NAUNET is an Egyptian primordial goddess, who ruled over the sea and the underworld.ANAHITA was an ancient Persian fertility goddess who had a strong relationship with water, especially itthe life-giving river that flows down from the mythical Mount Hara.
